Have you ever been to Goa, India? Yes?? Then let me guess, you must have visited the famous places to visit in Goa like Vagator Beach, Anjuna Beach, Baga Beach .. north goa right?
And if I further ask you, what all things you did in your Goa visit?
“Partying”, many of you may say.
Its all right. Thats so common. Goa is actually famous for beach party, cheap liqueur, sea food. Today in this post, I am going to show the other side of Goa, rather much much peaceful side. South Goa.
In my recent visit to Goa, I took the road less traveled. It was a 5 days trip with My husband, Aditya.
South Goa is famous for peacefully, clean and less crowded beaches, temples, waterfalls, sanctuaries. Also it is less commercialized compare to North Goa.
We had no such list of places to Visit in South Goa. They say, if you really wish to travel then do not check internet, ask local people.
And thats what we did. We had stayed at Oceanic Resort in Palolem. The care taker suggested us to Visit Bubble Lake also called as Budbudyanchi Tali in Goan language.
Later on we came to know, the road towards Bubble lake goes from Netravali Wildlife Sanctuary. And thats how we happen to visit beautiful Netravali Sanctuary in South Goa.
Where is Bubble Lake in Goa? Is it worth to visit?? I have covered this in a separate post : Bubble Lake Aka Budbudyanchi Tali – Less Visited Place in South Goa
The Netravali Wildlife Sanctuary
The Netravali Wildlife Sanctuary is just perfect for an adventurous break from the routine life.
If Party and Beaches are only purpose behind your Goa Trip, then you will miss some great places in this beautiful state.
Where Is Netravali Wildlife Sanctuary
Is about 70 km from Goa Airport. The best way to explore it on two wheeler. It’s generally a two hours drive to this particular destination.
You may think it’s quite a distance, the drive to Netravali is absolutely worth it. Also when you are in goa, you can rent a two wheeler easily (except some parts of south Goa where choices are limited).
It has a dense forest so I would recommend to go in group.
Best Season and Time To Visit
Monsoon from Late June to August – Its a rainy season so you can find greenery and fresh air. Also in rainy season, you can enjoy in the famous Savari water fall in netravali.
Another great season to visit is Winter: From November to January.
Try to avoid visiting Netravali in summer, March to May and October,
I visited Netravali in monsoon season. It was July month. Due to rainy season the temperature was pleasant and humid. Netravali has dense forest.
There were some patches where in-spite of sunny afternoon, hardly any sunlight reaching the ground. It was that dense.
What To Expect On Reaching Netravali Sanctuary??
Dense forest: At the starting Point of Netravali Sanctuary
As you reach, there is a check post where you may or may not have to pay entry fees. I was not not asked. Immediately the dense forest will start.
If its not a season or working day then you will hardly come across any humans in the long 7-8 kilometer patch.
The sanctuary also is home to a vast variety of animals, birds and rare species of butterflies. Its a paradise for people that are nature enthusiasts.
There are so many cool spots where you may wish to spot for click pictures. But make sure you are in group or the spot is safe enough to spot.
You can check more pictures from My Trip To Netravali Wildlife Sanctuary.
Hotels To Stay Near Netravali Sanctuary
I had stayed in Oceanic View Resort. From here it took me around 2 hours to reach this place.
Since south goa is not commercialized much, accommodation rates are less compare to north goa. You can find the review of Oceanic View Resort here.
Now Lets Talk About My Experience..Let the story begins…
A day before visiting Netravali, me and Aditya (My husband) just casually asked the care taker of Oceanic Resort where we had stayed.
Are there any good places to visit near this area?? Aditya Asked him
Yes there is a Bubble lake..and its just 30 minutes distance from here.. He replied.
Me and Aditya did not want to make our Goa trip hectic. So when he said its just 30 minutes, we decided to visit it next day.
Since we had 2 two wheeler with us, travelling was not an issue.
Next day we had some food early morning. And then we left Oceanic View resort at around 10am.
Our calculation was to reach Bubble lake in 30-40 minutes, chill there for one hour and return back to resort for lunch by 2 pm max.
We stopped on the way to fill petrol. Fuel prices in Goa are much lesser then Mumbai. Our mobile internet was fluctuating so we had to stop quite a couple of times to ask for the route.
Later we came to know the road to Bubble lake goes through Netravali Wildlife Sanctuary.
30 minutes were passed. Google map showed us still one more hour to go. Thats when I realized, when a local in Goa says, it will take 30 minutes then assume that it may take two hours :).
But no regrets. Because the road towards Netravali Sanctuary was ridiculously beautiful.
It was surrounded by green rice fields, hug mountains covered with white clouds. It somehow reminded me of Thailand.
As we started approaching Netravali, we took a break on seeing beautiful rice fields. I utilized this time to click some pictures for my Instagram account.
I have this thing. Whenever I am there in nature, I like to walk barefoot. Walking through those rice fields was so much fun. Due the kind of cloths I was wearing that day, I felt and looked like a hippe.
Will I Recommend Netravali Sanctuary To Someone?
Yes, if these pictures of Netravali are tempting then I highly recommend to visit it in winter or monsoon. Do this trip on two wheeler to make it memorable.
