South Thailand is mainly best known for its beautiful white sand beaches, wild island parties, and mouth watering food. If you have checked my Thailand travel itinerary, then you know that I spent nice 4 days on Koh Phi Phi island.
This small island is a popular destination for its stunning beaches, blue and crystal clear waters and night life.
Koh Phi Phi island was on top of my bucket list. I really had a great time on this island. So, I decided to create this Complete Guide On Koh Phi Phi Island.
Now its time to throw it back to my days exploring Koh Phi Phi in Thailand! Lets get started!
Where Is Koh Phi Phi Located In The World?
Koh Phi Phi Islands is a group of small 6 islands. It is located on the South West coast of Thailand in the Andaman Sea. The Islands are situated approximately 50 km South of Phuket. The two main popular islands are Koh Phi Phi Don and Koh Phi Phi Le.
Only the Koh Phi Phi Don is inhabited. It is the largest and most developed island and home to all of Koh Phi Phi’s hotels, restaurants and bars.
Koh Phi Phi Leh and several other small islands are in close range of Koh Phi Phi Don. They are popular day trip destinations.
Koh Phi Phi offers a huge range of experiences, from all-night parties to quiet relaxation on some of Thailand’s most exotic beaches.
How To Get To Koh Phi Phi Islands
The nearest airports to Koh Phi Phi are Krabi and Phuket International Airports. From Bangkok I took a AirAsia flight to the tiny Krabi Airport.
There are ferries departing from Phuket and Krabi to Phi Phi Island. The frequency and times depend on the season. One-way tickets would cost around 400 baht and can be purchased on almost every corner in tourist offices or hotels.

…the ticket price varies based on the season….
…a group of people in our ferry who were heading to Phi Phi for parting. we sat up top so there was a nice breeze…
…this is how our ferry looked from inside. It was clean. We didn’t spend any time inside as it was really fun to sit outside and watch the big mountains with cool breeze….
We purchased our ferry tickets from HERE Online. On 12go.asia website, you can book book Cab and ferries. You can save some money if you book the return ticket in advance. This will also ensure that you can enjoy up every minute of island life without any tension about your ticket back.
While boarding please DO NOT forget to carry eticket or ticket print out with you. The ferry ride from Krabi to the island took about two hours but it went really quickly.
What To Expect Upon Arrival To Koh Phi Phi Don
When you arrive at Ton Sai Pier in Phi Phi Island, be ready with approximately 20-30 bhats (subject to change) for entry fee to enter the island. These funds are used to keep the island clean and maintained. It is a part of a national park and the locals would like to keep the maintenance up.
…this is where, we were asked to pay the entry fee….
….it was Feb (the peak season) when we visited this island. It was expected to see so many people…
As you walk off the pier, you may see a lot of touts offering accommodation.
View From Koh Phi Phi Pier (there is only one pier on this island,Ton Sai Pier)
There are no cars on the Island. It was a pleasant surprise for me as I love to explore places by walking. Koh Phi Phi island is tiny and has no proper roads. You will have to carry your bags, or if you’re lucky your hotel staff will wheel them in a big cart. Do expect to pay a tip for this service.
…this is how hotel staff helps to transport your luggage….
We reached the island at around 5 PM. We had booked our stay at Bay View Resort and I could actually noticed a hotel staff person waiting for us. He carried our luggage in a big cart till the resort. As you start approaching your hotel, you will see a very colorful street life of this island.

…as you spend more time on this island, you will realize, breathtaking views (like this one) are everywhere. This picture was taken when there was low tide otherwise it would have been more beautiful….
…people from all around the world come here…walking and getting lost in those small lanes was a different experience in a good way…..
..it took 20 minutes walk to reach to our Bay View Resort, which resides at the one end of this island. This was our way to our resort…..

Where To Stay In Koh Phi Phi Islands
I remember how much time I spent on the internet, searching and searching for the best resorts in our budget. Here I am sharing whatever knowledge I have about staying in Phi Phi islands.
You will find all types of accommodation in Koh Phi Phi Island. From tiny bamboo bungalows, to luxurious resorts and hotels with superb beach views. In high season, from October to April, the prices tend to increase. One can find cheapest rates in rainy season.
We chose a mid-range beach facing villa in Bay Review Resort. It had everything we needed for a comfortable night sleep. To be honest, we spent 99.9% of our time out on the beach or exploring Koh Phi Phi street life. A 15 – 20 minutes walk away from pier, the Bay View Resort is clean and has stunning beach views.

Now let me give some best example of resorts in Koh Phi Phi. I have divided them into 3 categories: Budget Friendly, Mid range and luxurious.
Budget Friendly – Papaya Phi Phi Resort
Basic rooms, Free wifi and Air Conditioning. Many rooms provide a balcony with a good view. I personally find it cheap to get free wifi and Air conditioning in these rates. Also hotel staff helps to transport luggage from Phi Phi pier to the hotel room
Mid Range – Bay View Resort
This is the resort where we had stayed. In our package breakfast was included. This hotel has bar, swimming pool, kind of private beach. In the night they sometimes organize fire shows. Free Wifi , free luggage transportation and Aircontioner beaching facing villas.
The hotel is very modern. I would advise to select your villa properly as there are different types and price varies based on the kind of beach view the villa provides. I have already written a seperate post on: my experience and honest opinion of Bay View Resort.
Luxury – Zeavola resort
If you wish to make your stay at Koh Phi Phi island luxurious then this hotel has everything you could ever want. It offers a gym to get your workout , spa , a swimming pool and dive centers. Not to forget it has fast Wifi, room service, breakfast and laundry service.
Zeavola offers wedding packages too, let you destination wedding dream come true 🙂
Whether you want to stay in a hostel for a couple of dollars a night, or in a resort with all the amenities you can think of, you can find it in Koh Phi Phi.
WHAT TO EAT: On Koh Phi Phi Island
Honestly Koh Phi Phi is certainly not the place in Thailand to discover all that the typical Thai kitchen has to offer.
You can get pretty much anything you want on Phi Phi Don including seafood, Mexican, Italian, pizza, burgers, BBQ, Thai, Chinese, street food and the list goes on. Majority of restaurants have a big menu, like the size of the bible.
..they display fresh fish outside, so you can select which one you want in your plate. I dont remember what that fancy looking, orange yellow colored thing is :(…
Don’t get me wrong, you’ll also find decent food at a cheap price. You just need to explore a little more to find out.
I found this delicious Thai curry at a road side small hotel. It was cheap compare to others. I paid 80 bhats for a bowl of red thai curry and rice.
..to be honest, this red thai curry was little less creamy and thick but taste wise yumm..What else you can except in 80 bhat on phi phi island. What I still get craving sometimes…
In what to eat in Phi Phi Island post, I have mentioned the exact place where you can find this Thai curry.
…thai rice is sticky but tastes good with Thai curry….
Prices of food varies too but it is possible to eat very cheaply if you stick to local food stalls and street food. Fresh made fruit shakes will run you 45 baht or so to give you an idea.
I have to say, the chilled Thai coconut water is the best refreshing drink I had in Phi Phi. You gotta try it. Also there are many fruit sellers on the road who sell fresh local fruits. I had brought a fruit plate while going for Koh Phi Phi Viewpoints hike.
..these fruits look so colorful and fancy. Did you notice that coconut water in the corner, ohh I miss it so much in India….
…I paid 100 bhat for this fruit plate. It was full of Mangos and Pineapple. Also 50 bhat I paid separately for this chilled coconut water. This was my lunch that day….
High end restaurant will serve you steak, lobster and any delicacy you can dream of, of course at a price but they are happy to serve you. The local beach bars serve fresh cocktails, local beers.
Thailand is known for its cuisine, the mixed array of spices, coconut and lemongrass can set anyone’s mouth watering. In Koh Koh Phi, there are many restaurants that will happy to serve you whatever you feel like eating, whether it be Thai or your favorite cuisine.
If you wish to try typical Thai cuisine then I would suggest to try : Tom Yum Goong (Spicy Shrimp Soup),Pad Thai (Thai-style Fried Noodles), Gaeng Daeng (Red Curry), Som Tam (Spicy Green Papaya Salad), Thai Rolled Ice Cream

Things To Do In Koh Phi Phi Island
The list of outdoor activities that you can be a part of on Koh Phi Phi are truly endless. It depends on your itinerary the kind of activities you can enjoy and the amount of time you have.
More time = More Fun.
If you wish to have the most action-packed trip filled with island hopping, scuba diving, snorkeling, cave adventures, sea kayaking ,hiking then you will find all that here.
On the other hand, if you are more inclined to sipping cold drinks on the beach or getting suntan on the beach while reading your favorite novel, that is also you can do in Koh Phi Phi.
..these are called as long tailed boats. Koh Phi Phi island is very modern. I think these boats are some of the few traditional Thai things that sill exists in Phi Phi….
Here’s a couple of things we decided to do during our stay:
Hiking To Phi Phi Viewpoints:
The Phi Phi viewpoint is elevated to 186m, which isn’t really that high. If you’re fit and feeling energetic, it’s a brisk 30 minute walk. The view is, of course, magnificent.
…in the middle of the afternoon, reached to the Phi Phi View Point top. And the view was so so stunning. My smile says a lot about my happiness 🙂 ..

It’s no secret now that Phi Phi offers some great dives. There are plenty of dive shops to get your paddy license and I will put my money on it that you won’t want to leave once you get into the world of Phi Phi’s diving.
…you will find many PADI diving centers on the island….
My husband did 3 days Padi certification course here and he said it was pretty awesome.
Fire Show on the Beach
This is the most amazing this that you will witness. We stopped to see what was happening while walking by with the intention of watching one of such fire shows only for a few minutes. Next thing we know, we are there for nearly two hours, with a beer, mesmerized by the stunning fire show.
Majority of fireshows, you can watch for free. If you wish then you can give them a tip later.
Chilling At Beach
Our entire reason for going to Koh Phi Phi was for relaxation. When you live in a city like Mumbai and struggling to reach home though everyday traffic, you need some fresh air. In this case, nothing can beat chilling at beach with chilled beer.
….Bay View Resort offers free sunbathing bed. That day when my husband was out for his diving course, I decided to just chill in the hotel reception room…..
